Brecon Beacons Summer Fayre 2012

Over the Bank Holiday weekend of the 25th to 27th August 2012, Ystradgynlais Volunteer Centre again attended the annual Summer Fayre at the Brecon Beacons Mountain Centre at Libanus. With our wood and tools, and craft items, we were also selling copies of Len Ley's history of the Swansea Valley industry and culture 'The Iron Cradle' (available from the YVC, 16 Station Road, Ystradgynlais).

Wooden items manufactured down the factory at Ystrad Recycling, Glanrhyd, included specialty products such as the yellow-and red rocking duck, pictured here, or a beautifully painted wooden train, as well as garden products such as birdboxes, wheelbarrow planters, and trugs. A very good seller over the weekend this year were welly-pullers! Perhaps a comment on the weather...

After good weather and crowds on the Sunday, the weather turned torrential for parts of Bank Holiday Monday, but visitors still came, sales were still made, and we all managed to have a good time.

Ystradgynlais Volunteer Centre has attended the Summer Fayre annually for the last several years, as have the maker of toadstools/mushrooms, pictured here, and Cotwsold Tents, whom we are grateful for the donation, a couple of years ago, of the two quick-assembly gazebos which did sterling service sheltering us from the wind and rain on this weekend.

As usual, gardening tools and vintage craft tools were excellent sellers on the weekend.

VOLUNTEERS WANTED - If you would like to be involved in refurbishing old tools for sale to the community, please get in touch with us on 01639-849192 and we can discuss what time you have available to volunteer.

Or if you have any unwanted, broken or unneeded tools please donate them to us, for us to rehandle, repair and sell on for charitable funds. Phone 01639-845475 to discuss collection.

Finally a big Thank You to Tony Royale whose excellent singing throughout the rain-soaked Bank Holiday Monday helped to keep spirits up and everyone having a good time. His inspired performance of the Bay City Rollers' 'Shang-a-Lang' really got everybody rocking in the rain!
